Krachkovskij was a member of the St. Petersburg Artists Association and a founding member of the Kuindzhi Society of Artists. The artist lived and worked in St. Petersburg. From 1874 to 1879 he studied at the Imperial Art Academy. In 1878 he received a gold medal for his work "Morning" and in the following year a large gold medal as well as the title First Grade Artist. After graduation in 1880, he travelled Europe to broaden and improve his education. He visited Berlin, Düsseldorf, Munich, Milan and Madrid and then settled in Paris. After his return to St. Petersburg in 1885, he was awarded as "Member of the St.Petersburg Art Academy" and rewarded for his excellent knowledge and skill in landscape painting.
