UECKER, GÜNTHER
1930 Wendorf
Title: Kann Fruchtbarkeit auf Asche gründen.
Date: 1990.
Exhibition catalogue, pages revised with 11 pieces of linen with mass of glue, earth, ash
and dust, 3 sketches with fibre pencil, 1 lead plate and various collaged paper strips.
Mounted in object box. 45,5 x 56 x 4,5cm.
Condition:
The book is positioned in a display case on a wooden strip. Formerly fixed into place with foil strips. These are cut through which is why the book must be transported up-right. Occasional slight bumping in the display case. Otherwise in very good condition.
Created for the exhibition in St. Petri, Lübeck, 1990. The catalogue is the artist's proof and was revised by him by means of the various materials. The artist plays here with the contrasting meanings of the materials earth, ash, and dust that represent death and transience in the sense of the biblical "ashes to ashes, dust to dust" and on the other hand in the sense of the breeding ground for new life, as fertile earth and the clay from the creation myth. The object is a unique specimen.
Provenance:
- Galerie Bassenge, Berlin
- Private collection Bavaria
