PORCELAIN FIGURINES OF A PAIR OF YOUNG PEASANTS.

Meissen.
Date: Once before 1924, once after 1934.
Maker/Designer: Models Theodor Eichler.
Technique: Porcelain, enriched with colours.
Description: Young peasant woman and young peasant man on unadorned oval pedestals. They are depicted walking forward, which is suggested not only by the stepping position but also by the movement in the clothing of the two figurines. The reaper wears a jacket tucked under his right arm and holds a sickle and rake in his hand. In his left hand he carries a bucket. He appears to be coming from the field at the end of a day's work, indicated by a couple of ears of corn between his feet. His clothes are a bit dishevelled after the hard work. His braces are hanging down, the collar of his shirt is open and his waistcoat is unbuttoned.
The girl wears her jacket, along with a jug, on a stick over her shoulder. Her clothes are orderly, yet she too seems to have come from work, for she carries a large bundle of harvest under her right arm.
Measurement: Height 37,5cm/36cm.
Mark: Swords mark, on the base of the girl incised swords mark under crown, U134/U133, porcelain former's number 100/52, painter's number 32/28.

Provenance:
- Private collection Rhineland.
