Sarah Schumann closely followed the illness of her partner Silvia Bovenschen during her lifetime. Testimony to their last years together is, among other things, the series "Als rot der Tag begann die Wandlung des Doktor Prokto" (2014), to which this painting belongs. The shadowy drawing and the red hue that accompany this series are characteristic.
