In 1960, Sarah Schumann moved to London after separating from the Hamburg gallery owner Hans Brockstedt. During this time, the book "Alice in Wonderland" by the Victorian author Lewis Carroll (1832-1898) served as the basis for new collages. These first works with titular quotations from the book are continued in the 1970s in numerous prints, such as the poem "The Mouse's Tale" for this print.
This copy is outside of the numbered editions. There are three colour variations. One for the annual edition of the Hamburger Kunstverein 1972 and another one for the portfolio of the same name of the Edition Hossmann. These editions are probably numbered.
